Step 1: Choose the right loan
Start by deciding which type of loan matches what you need the money for. Zanora offers five loan types:
| Loan type | Best for | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|
| Personal loans | Individuals with a specific personal goal | Home improvements, major purchases, education, life events |
| Business loans | Small and established businesses | Working capital, expansion, inventory, hiring |
| Equipment financing | Businesses buying or upgrading equipment | Machinery, vehicles, medical equipment, technology |
| Property financing | Homeowners, investors, and businesses | Purchases, renovations, commercial premises |
| Debt consolidation | People and businesses with several debts | Combining credit cards, loans, and overdrafts |
Each loan page explains who it suits, its key features, and the documents to prepare. If you are thinking about combining existing debts, our article on what to consider before consolidating debt explains how to decide whether it is the right move.
Step 2: Check your eligibility
Not sure which loan fits? Take our eligibility quiz. It asks five quick questions about what you need, who it is for, the amount, the purpose, and your timing. It then suggests a loan type and opens the application with your answers already filled in.
The quiz is a guide only. It is not an approval or a credit decision, and it does not affect your credit record.
Step 3: Prepare your documents
You can apply without documents, but having them ready makes the application faster and helps our team review it sooner. Here is what we usually ask for.
For individuals
- Government-issued photo ID, such as a passport or national ID card
- Proof of address, such as a recent utility bill
- Proof of income, such as pay slips or tax returns
- Recent bank statements
- Details of any existing debts and monthly repayments
For businesses
- Business registration documents
- Recent financial statements and tax filings
- Business bank statements
- Government-issued photo ID for owners and directors
- A short explanation of how the funds will be used
For equipment financing, add the supplier’s quote or invoice. For property financing, add the property details and any purchase agreement or renovation quotes. Business owners will find a fuller checklist in our guide to preparing a business loan application.
Step 4: Complete the online application
The online loan application has six short steps. A progress bar shows how far you have come, and you cannot move to the next step until the required fields, marked with a red asterisk, are complete.
- Loan details. Choose whether you are applying as an individual or a business, the type of loan, the amount in USD, your preferred term and repayment frequency, the purpose, and when you need the funds. You can also say whether you can offer collateral.
- Your personal details. Your full legal name, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, and the type of photo ID you hold. Businesses enter the details of the owner or director completing the application.
- Contact and address. Your email, phone number, and full address.
- Employment, income, or business details. Individuals share their employment status and monthly income. Businesses share their legal name, registration details, industry, years in operation, and annual revenue.
- Financial position. Existing debts, monthly repayments, your main bank, and any history of bankruptcy or missed payments.
- Documents and declarations. Upload documents if you have them, confirm that your information is accurate, and agree to be contacted.
Uploaded documents must be PDF, JPG, or PNG files of up to 5 MB each. They are sent over a secure HTTPS connection and never stored on the public website. You can read how we handle your information in our privacy policy.
When you submit, you see a confirmation page with a reference number, such as ZAN-20261010-AB12CD. Keep it handy so you can quote it when we contact you.
Step 5: Our review
A member of our lending team reads your application and any documents you uploaded. During the review we may:
- Contact you by email or phone to ask questions or discuss your options
- Ask for documents you did not upload
- Verify your identity, as required by anti-money laundering rules
- Carry out a credit check, after telling you first
Identity checks protect you and us from fraud. Our anti-money laundering notice explains what we may ask for and why.
Step 6: Receive and review your offer
If we can help, we send you a written offer that sets out the full terms: the amount, the rate, the term, the repayment schedule, any fees, and the total amount you will repay. Take your time to read it carefully.
Two guides can help you understand your offer. What is APR? explains how to compare the true yearly cost of a loan, and What is collateral? explains how pledging an asset works and the risks involved. You can also compare secured and unsecured loans.
Want to see how the amount, rate, and term affect your repayments? Try the loan repayment calculator. It is an illustration only, and your real figures are those in your written offer.
Step 7: Accept and receive your funds
If you are happy with the offer, you accept it in writing. Once you have accepted and all checks are complete, the funds are released to you. If you decide not to go ahead, you are under no obligation.
Before you accept, make sure the repayments fit comfortably within your budget. Our risk disclosure explains the main risks of borrowing, and our terms and conditions explain how our services work.
What we consider when reviewing a loan
Every application is reviewed individually. These are the main factors our lending team looks at:
| Factor | What it means |
|---|---|
| Purpose of the funds | What the money is for and how it will help you or your business. |
| Ability to repay | Your income or, for businesses, your revenue and cash flow. |
| Credit history | How you have managed loans and credit in the past. |
| Existing commitments | Your other debts and regular repayments. |
| Collateral | Any assets you can offer to help secure the loan. |
| Time in business | For companies, how long the business has been operating. |
Tips for a strong loan application
- Be specific about the amount. Request what you need and explain how you reached that figure.
- Explain the purpose clearly. A short, honest description helps our team understand your plans.
- Keep your information accurate and complete. Mismatched details slow down the review.
- Upload documents early. Sending them with your application can help us respond sooner.
- Be open about your finances. Tell us about existing debts and any past difficulties. Honesty helps us find suitable options.
- Borrow only what you can repay. Check that the repayments fit your budget before you accept.
